"What is life? Life is a chemical information system,” asserts Hungarian born scientist Gyula Dékány—a belief that has driven groundbreaking discoveries, including the synthesis of human milk oligosaccharides, now transforming infant nutrition. For over two decades, he has been torn between Europe and Australia, living 16,000 km away from his family while dedicating himself to scientific breakthroughs. Now, as he works to develop compounds that could cure Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, he faces a new challenge: balancing his relentless pursuit of innovation with the desire to be home. Is life merely a chemical information system, or does it hold something deeper?
